Sleeping when awake?

He made his way to the bed
uncertain of where he stood
a fall
and he crashed so fast
as if the last year never existed
as if he had slept one night off
turning that into many more
comatose was he?
no he wasn’t
he had been walking
he had been talking
he had taken to her
long nights in bed
waking up to her face
he once felt her shallow and vapid
and as he awoke he still had
yet she claimed they were lovers
and they spent many nights curled in
within deep slumbers
speaking of their feelings
and their futures
and he couldn’t remember
he couldn’t remember
the love he must have felt
all he felt was displacement
and disinterest
and he couldn’t
force it out of himself
he couldn’t believe what she had said
all he could take in were lies
because if it was the truth
had that meant
he had been sleeping when he was awake?
