Safe is earned.

We want to know
the moment our eyes
set place upon a face
if they are safe
and in truth
safe is earned
and can be broken again in time.

Looks are not truth
it’s what is hidden
the squishy part
that we cannot see
the parts inside brains
that aren’t released
as truth in every conversation
that determines who a person is.

We cannot
and we shall not
base safe upon stereotypes
or indulge in movies
believing what they state as truth
because people are complex
and every is an individual
even if we are incapable
of accepting that fact.
