You want simple
you want easy
you want to see the finish
the truth is that it isn’t
it never is easy
it never is simple
and the finish line
is death.

All the parts before
they hurt
legs and arms cut by the rustic fences
we must climb
claiming victory
as our scrapes bleed
scabbing over
as we keep going.

Why
Because that is life
if we quit
we’d miss our chance
at our own success.

What is success?
I can’t tell you that.
What is accomplishment?
I can’t tell you that.
What is happiness?
I can’t tell you that.
You could read a self help book
learn a few mantras
and still be left uncertain
because only you know
what makes
everything before the finish line
worth the life you put in.
