Listening to your heartbeat.

It’s difficult
to rest
to take a breath
and just be here.

I’m always thinking
worrying
stressing about the bills
about the make believe
that’s made its way in.
believing we need more
a bigger place to live.

Rather than
sitting here
with you
and just listening
to your heartbeat
several beats
listening
recognizing your love
like I used to
before the bills became ours
and we had to thrive
in a place
neither of us agree with.
