The speakers microphone.

Tolerance goes in two directions
and speaking awareness is fair
although there is a sense of intellect
we must keep in tact
and shouting out your simply wrong
is not an equal approach
it only turns the speakers microphone
into a platform of intolerance
and the receiving ears close up
and begin to stumble
upon a sense of confliction
rather than understanding and respect.

When you hold the microphone
and spit out words
to make the receiving ears feel inadequate,
politically, and morally incorrect
you begin to lose
the respect of those
that understood what you oppose.

Eventually our society becomes
a closed room
with separating lines
in which bodies are shouting to each other
“Don’t go past the line!”
And we begin to lose sight
of what mattered
of what we wanted
rather in the end
we separate
and those separations
draw their lines
until our paths our so small
all we do is stand frozen in place
until there is nothing left
to do, or say
and we’re forced to sleep standing up.
